There is no baseline until a play on the runner is established. And the Runner can veer off so long as to intentionally direct the ball. This was an intentional vere but he did not intentionally make contact with the ball. And for those who think the baseline is a straight line, go watch a good base runner hit a double or a triple, or go first to third. The runner bellys out to create an angle by your rules those players would be called out too.

This isn't even a base path ruling, it's a runner interference ruling. The only question is if he did it on purpose and if there's reasonable proof he did it to break up the double play.
