I think sinestro is implying that John is here to replace Hal (as we saw in the trailer I believe) and that potentially the guardians are going to engineer an ending for Hal because he’s no longer going by the book

I have totally been, meh, about watching this series when I heard about it because I’ve never been a Green Lantern fan because, frankly, a magic ring sounds over-powered and stupid. But every review I’ve seen the last couple of weeks makes me really interested. I want there to be a few more episodes so I can binge a bunch over a weekend, but definitely hooked now.
