@midcenturymai: We may have a slight problem… 😅 Seeing the island in the space in real time and I’m starting to question whether the scale is right with the dining room 👀 Is the island too big? Does it come too far into the dining space? Would you shorten it, make it narrower, or leave it exactly as is? HELP. What would you do?! 😬👇 #RenoTok #HomeRenovation #MidCenturyModern #KitchenReno #RenoDiaries
As a kitchen designer, can you shorten the refrigerator wall? And move the island into the kitchen more?

I know you want a small wall in the foyer to partially hide your kitchen, but I think I would tuck the fridge on the sink wall, forgo lengthening that wall and rotate the island in the other direction. Yes, your column will stand separately, but it’s better than forcing the space. Otherwise, do your island without the seating…let it be more of a serving island.

Can you put a bench instead of chairs on the side of the island? May save space as you could tuck the bench under the dining table You could even use it for the island rather bar stools depending on height of both.

We renovated our kitchen and ended up with this exact problem. Don’t forget your counter overhang. Good that you are adjusting now!!! It’s going to look great!

Will the counter not be wider than the island? If that makes sense

How much clearance do you have between the wall and island? I don’t feel like it’s enough based off this video.

If there is going to be an overhang on the dining room side then yes, maybe not so wide of an island.

If your dining room is right off of the kitchen, I don't think you'll need barstools. Anyone sitting at the table will still feel close enough to the kitchen for hosting and things like that. Plus, if you do plan on hosting, I don't think it'd be super practical to have people sitting at both the barstools and at the table

Round or oval dining table? Can you shift your table to before in line with the foyer? Then maybe Turn the proposed island 90 degrees to get a longer island?

I would loose the idea of sitting at the island. Then I would use those two chairs at the ends of the table and then buy a bench or much smaller chairs for the sides of the table.

If you want to keep negative space under the island I don’t think it will feel cramped at all, and will look elegant with the right barstools tucked underneath. Not ideal for storage but a good idea if you’re worried about it feeling cramped

can't the dining table go in closer to living room by the sliding door? then you could do a really long island
