In an electronic throttle body (ETB), a single connector is usually used to integrate the circuits of the M+ and M− butterfly engines, the redundant TPS1/TPS2 position signals, 5 V reference, and sensor mass. The ECU receives the pedal's APP request, calculates the required angle, and directly controls the DC motor of the body; at the same time, it continuously compares TPS1 and TPS2 to confirm that the actual position matches the ordered one. This is why the ETB functions as a closed control and monitoring system. In a mechanical throttle body with a cable, the main butterfly is physically moved by the pedal. The TPS only informs the ECU of the opening angle and normally uses 5 V, signal, and mass. The throttle control is separated by an IAC, which opens or restricts a bypass air passage around the closed butterfly. Depending on the design, it can be a 2-cable PWM-controlled IAC, or a 4-cable stepper-type IAC with two coils sequentially controlled by the ECU. That is, TPS and IAC can be physically close to the body, but electrically perform independent functions. The main electronic difference is that the DC motor of the ETB directly moves the butterfly in both directions. The ECU uses a H bridge or power stage capable of inverting the current between M+ and M− and regulates position by recharging the TPS. The IAC does not control the butterfly's angle: it only modifies the bypass air flow to stabilize the RPM. In a PWM IAC, the ECU regulates the duty cycle; in a stepper-type IAC, it energizes the coils in sequence to shift the shaft.
