Lau LGA, Taraba State. 🌍❤️ Created on 27 August 1991 alongside the creation of Taraba State, Lau covers about 1,660 km², with Lau town as its headquarters. According to the 2006 census, the LGA had a population of 95,190. Lau is home to diverse communities including the Lau (also known as Winlau), Kunini, Bandawa, Shomo, Minda, Mumuye, Yandang, Jenjo and Fulani people. With the River Benue running along its northern boundary, fishing is an important part of life here, alongside farming. Major crops include rice, maize, millet, groundnuts and other food crops. 🌾🎣🌊 Some notable towns and communities include Lau, Kunini, Minda, Sayonti, Abbare, Garin-Dogo and Mayo Lope. Market days: Lau market holds on Fridays, Kunini on Mondays, Sayonti on Sundays, Abbare on Tuesdays, and Garin-Dogo on Sundays. 🛍️ Interesting fact: Lau is one of the LGAs that sits directly along the River Benue, making its riverside communities important for fishing, agriculture and local trade.
