First of all he’s not a seminarian, he’s a priest 😌….As Catholics, we pray the Litany of the Saints, which calls upon saints from different nations, cultures and periods of history. The Catholic Church does not restrict holiness to any particular race or continent. There are many African and Black saints and martyrs, including St. Augustine of Hippo, St. Monica, St. Josephine Bakhita, St. Charles Lwanga and the Uganda Martyrs, among others. Catholic veneration of saints and their relics is not based on skin colour or ethnicity. Relics are honoured because of their connection with people whose lives bore witness to Christ and whose holiness has been recognized by the Church. Worship belongs to God alone. Saints are honoured and asked to intercede for us because they are understood to be alive with God. The Church also teaches that death does not end our relationship with those who belong to Christ. As Jesus says in Luke 20:38, “He is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.” Catholics therefore remember deceased family members, pray for them, and entrust them to God’s mercy. We can also thank God for the good lives they lived. However, Catholic teaching does not mean that every deceased relative should automatically be called a saint. The Church formally recognizes particular people as saints through canonization, while many others may be with God without ever being formally canonized. For this reason, Catholics pray for the faithful departed and ask God to receive them into His kingdom. When it comes to African traditions surrounding ancestors, Catholicism does not simply equate ancestral practices with the veneration of canonized saints. Traditional practices such as libation and communication with ancestors need to be considered carefully in light of Catholic teaching. The Catholic approach is to honour and remember one’s ancestors, pray for them, and entrust them to God, while avoiding treating them as gods or seeking from them what properly belongs to God.

I'm a Christian, but I can't be passionately defending something I have no evidence. Yesterday in church, I told my friend that being a Christian doesn't mean you can't question things. I was questioning the concept of Jesus being God and she tried to justify. But I asked another question that made her to start thinking.

Please no Catholic priest will stop you from visiting the grave of your ancestors. In fact you can actually invite them to bless the grave. Catholics have special day in the year for honoring the dead. You can even request mass for your dead relative. If your own church has stopped you from honoring your ancestors please don’t bring your frustrations on the innocent priest defending his faith.
