@lwazilweysta: Indigenous South African converting to Islamic religion has everything to do with ANC's failure to deliver its promises. This is the indication of just how our people have lost trust in Black Leadership. ANC aftermath is going to be more complicated
It’s scary… We are following religions that didn’t originate from us.

Conversion to Islam among Black South Africans is not a 2020s phenomenon. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many Zulu and Xhosa migrant workers in the Cape mines encountered Islam and converted, forming their own indigenous mosques in rural areas like Lady Frere in the Eastern Cape. There are generations of Black Muslim families who speak isiXhosa at home and pray in Arabic — they are not "responding to the ANC"; they are continuing a lineage that predates the party itself

Faith is not a political barometer
People convert to Islam for theological, spiritual, or personal reasons—seeking community, monotheism, or spiritual fulfillment. Reducing their sincere conviction to a "vote against the ANC" strips the convert of their agency and dignity. It presumes they are incapable of making a faith-based decision unless driven by desperation, which is patronizing.
