Turning foraged three corner leeks into miso and salt with @Shared Cultures !!! Thank you Eleana & Kevin for fueling my soups!! I met Eleana and Kevin during the pandemic and have watched them grow their small business. They are the most hardworking team I've met - foraging for the ingredients that thoughtfully and intentionally go into their small batch ferments. I really admire the way they do business; and running a small business in this way in San Francisco is NOT easy. Keeping ingredients high quality and local, avoiding plastic as much as possible, upcycling shipping materials. All of it takes a lot of time, effort, and love! I'm really happy to be highlighting small business like theirs through my boycotting grocery stores journey :D A reminder of why I'm not shopping at conventional grocery stores- I know I won't be perfect, but my 3 goals are to: 1) develop a closer relationship with my food source, whether that is foraging directly from the land, growing my own food, exchanging with others who grow/ catch/raise, or shopping locally 2) support local businesses, makers, growers, catchers, raisers, and sellers; Diverting from the industrial food complex as much as possible. a handful of powerful companies control the majority market share of ~80% of groceries bought regularly by Americans. These companies dominate every part of the food supply chain, with the power to lobby politically as well, all while farmers are some of the lowest paid workers and our food worsens. 3) reduce plastic consumption; Shared Cultures uses glass jars! They also collect shipping boxes and packaging from other businesses and customers to reuse for their own packaging and shipping! #bavarea #foraging #sanfrancisco #SmallBusiness #miso
