I don’t understand why people keep talking negatively about Monument Boulevard in Concord when many of them don’t even step outside their own little bubble to see how much the area has actually changed. Yes, Monument has a large Latino community, but that doesn’t make it a bad neighborhood or a place people should automatically look down on. A community shouldn’t be judged by the ethnicity of the people who live there or by an outdated reputation. Monument Boulevard and the surrounding areas have changed a lot over the years. There’s also much more surveillance now, with cameras throughout the area and at many intersections that can help law enforcement investigate crimes and identify suspects. Crime can happen anywhere. There have been incidents, including a shooting a few months ago and thefts around the shopping areas, but suspects have also been identified and arrested. That’s an important part people conveniently leave out. And look at Compton—it spent decades carrying a certain reputation, yet many parts of the city today are much quieter than people who haven’t been there would expect. So before judging Monument Boulevard just because of who lives there or because of what you heard years ago, actually go there and see it for yourself. Times change, neighborhoods change, and communities evolve. Don’t judge an entire area from inside your little bubble.
