Hey, if you’re wanting to keep your Korean and American citizenship, id recommend looking into seeing if you’re eligible second generation Korean citizenship status. I got it a few weeks ago and it allows me to keep both my citizenships without having to complete military service provided I don’t stay in Korea for more than a total of 3 years between age 18-37. Worth checking with your local consulate/embassy.

It’s should be an honor, a once-in-a-lifetime honor, to serve and protect a country like the ROK which has done so much for its own citizens in the last fifty years - from a rice paddy economy to a World leader and example for all of Asia. The improvements to the lives of regular citizens is unbelievable, unbelievable. The DPRK still has thousands of WW2 artillery guns pointing at Seoul from the north just across the DMZ, not to mention nukes, and remains a real threat. Don’t look at service as an obligation, it’s an opportunity to protect everything and everyone South of the DMZ. Tell your children that you answered the nation’s call, and shadow box your service ribbons with pride.

The cool thing about the Korean military now though? They are embracing the celebrities coming in, and creating public events for them to MC or perform in. It gives a whole new view of Korea and of their military. Have you checked out their videos?

at 16 I got a letter from the French military that since I am also a norwegian citizen and live in Norway that I will do whatever military service here and not go to France. (also, I was not drafted for the norwegian milliary either)
