She became popular with young, progressive Pashtuns in KP, and her music was famous in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and among Pashtuns worldwide. In late 2007, her family fled Swat to Peshawar. Radio Kabul director called her "the most requested and popular Pashto singer" She married Peshawar businessman Jahangir Khan in April 2010. After marriage she stopped singing publicly for 2 years. *Her Death* On June 18, 2012 aged 24, Ghazala and her father were shot dead in Peshawar while leaving a beauty salon in Dabgari Bazar. Two men on a motorbike opened fire. She was hit 6 times. She was buried in Swat on June 19, 2012, with thousands attending her funeral. People called her a "national sweetheart" and "the one who kept song alive even when K-P was going through its darkest period". Her story is often compared to Nazia Hassan because both left too young but made a huge impact. Her death shocked the Pashto music industry and highlighted the risks artists faced from conservative pressure and militancy.
