What to do if you notice your potato plants dying back early - It could be excess water! This happened to a few of my plants last year due to heavy rains and a corner of my garden with poor drainage. If this happens, no worries! Dig up your plant and check the potatoes. The white spots which are the lenticels on your potatoes can be common and are still safe to eat. While edible, potatoes with swollen lenticels are more susceptible to bacteria like soft rot because the enlarged pores provide an easy entry point for moisture and pathogens, so storage for these is not recommended.
