Before you start a homestead… what’s the VERY first thing you think about? 👀 Because mine is: “How broke is this about to make me?” 😂 Like… “lemme check my bank account real quick before I commit to owning a horse” kind of way. Because how much can you actually afford RIGHT NOW without putting yourself in a financial black hole while trying to copy somebody else’s Instagram farmhouse fantasy? A lot of people see the cute sourdough videos and immediately start planning their “simple life” while standing in a Goodwill checkout line holding $94 worth of decorative baskets they absolutely did not need. (Yep. It was me.) Nobody wants to ask the boring questions like: “How am I actually going to sustain this long term?” Because that ruins the mood. Land costs money. Animal feed costs money. Fencing costs money. Emergency vet bills cost money. And mistakes? Oh baby… mistakes will kick you in the ar*e financially and spiritually. 😂 I think people romanticize homesteading so much now that they skip to the end of the movie where Vivienne and Arthur are baking sourdough in matching linen outfits while casually frolicking through an impeccable garden like giant green worms didn’t just eat half their tomato plants. Because listen… Your dream homestead loses a little sparkle when you’re exhausted, broke, and hungry. That’s why I’ll always tell people: Start smaller than your ego and your TikTok algorithm. You do not need the perfect setup immediately. You do not need 47 animals your first year. You do not need $500 matching garden beds to start with. You need something you can actually AFFORD to keep going without losing your sh*t. Because the truth is… A lot of people don’t fail because they’re lazy. They fail because they built a lifestyle that looked cute online but wasn’t bank account friendly. What’s the FIRST thing you think about before starting a homestead? 👀
