@avishkalakshani: AWARENESS IS NOT ENOUGH — WE NEED ACTION What is happening to women and children in Sri Lanka cannot continue to be treated as “just another Facebook post.” I have come across disturbing content and allegations involving the sexual abuse and exploitation of women and children, including claims that some individuals are using Facebook groups to facilitate or discuss the sexual exploitation of women and even incestuous abuse involving family members. If these allegations are true, these are not simply “bad people” or “social media problems.” These are serious crimes that can destroy a person’s life. I am sharing this because I believe society has a responsibility to speak up. We cannot wait until another victim is harmed, another family is destroyed, or another tragic case reaches the news before we decide to act. To the public: Please do not ignore suspicious content. Do not share victims’ identities or humiliating images. Instead, preserve screenshots, profile links, usernames, dates, messages and other evidence, and report it to the proper authorities. To the authorities: Please pay attention to the activities taking place in social-media groups where women and children may be targeted, exploited, threatened or sexually abused. Online spaces should not become places where predators can operate without consequences. I am not asking people to conduct their own investigations or attack anyone online. I am asking for proper investigation, accountability and protection of potential victims. If you know of a child who may be in danger, Sri Lanka’s National Child Protection Authority operates the 1929 Child Helpline, which is available 24/7 and accepts reports in Sinhala, Tamil and English. The Sri Lanka Police Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women also accepts complaints through 109 and [email protected]. Silence protects perpetrators. Reporting can protect victims. Let’s stop normalising violence and exploitation. Let’s protect women and children. And let’s demand that the responsible authorities investigate credible reports properly. #protectwomen #protectchildren #srilankan #stopabuse #reportabuse @Samadhi💋 @Vishu 🌸 @AYeeSHuuuHhh..🦋✨ @ranumie @Diary of dazu @Chathuryaaaaaa<3 @Scooby @S a C h i 🪬 @___tiny__🕷! @🎀Thathsarani🌈
