Vintage Yamaha is almost complete. Cylinder head work. Should I build a new(ish) Yamaha after? This was filmed/ completed a few weeks ago. I said today in the video (gasp). Being a holiday today, I took a day off from the shop. Soon I'll have everything back together and running. I started off by disassembling the cylinder head. Then I cleaned the cylinder head, and valves in the ultrasonic tank (separately). The valves/ springs/ keepers etc were not disorganized, everything went in the same place it came from. I cleaned the oily parts in the varsol tank. After the valves were finished in the ultrasonic, I finished them on the lathe with red scotch bite. This cleaned everything else off. Then I lapped the valves, and reassembled. Testing for a leak: I used water. Other chemicals can be used, but water also works. Some people use alcohol, some people use varsol, some people use water. All are valid The big question: Should I build a newer Yamaha? Like an R6? I still have roughly 2.5-3 months before the season really picks up. This bike will be finished within a couple days, and the DRZ will be finished in a month or so. I had a 2007 r6 when I was younger, it was great. That being said, it doesn't compare to the Ducati, but building one would be fun.
