@c5news: “Why are they dressed like Mario Brothers?” A trio of “mole people” have been filmed emerging out of a manhole in the middle of the night. The men, wearing headlamps and overalls that some commenters suggested made them look like “the Mario Brothers”, were captured just blocks away from Madison Square Garden, in New York, around 4am on 18 August. The clip comes two months after videos captured men emerging from manholes in Williamsburg and Gravesend. Authorities believe the incidents involve people scavenging for anything of value. The New York Post reported that treasure hunters have long been drawn to the Big Apple’s sprawling 7,500-mile sewer system for wallets and jewellery that may have fallen through grates. The NYPD is actively investigating the latest incident at 32nd street and Seventh Avenue, but no arrests have been made. Authorities cautioned that sneaking into manholes was “both illegal and extremely dangerous.” “Sewers can contain numerous hazards, including noxious and potentially deadly gases, unstable surfaces, flooding risks, and confined spaces,” the New York City Department of Environmental Protection said. “For these reasons, members of the public should never enter a pipe, drain, catch basin, manhole, or outfall.” Commenters on the video have also highlighted security concerns, with one writing: "Coming out of a manhole right on top of Penn Station...
