Jana, while I was having lunch with colleagues, someone mentioned that Ruto is doing a lot around Gikomba and that new business buildings are coming up. Then someone casually responded, “Hata akijenga, ataenda nyumbani.” Honestly, I lost my appetite. I couldn't understand the reasoning behind that statement—or, more broadly, what exactly some Kenyans want. If development is happening, businesses are growing, and people are putting up new buildings, why reduce everything to the idea that the President will eventually “go home”? At what point do we start looking at development for what it is, rather than filtering everything through political cynicism?
