Gabapentin is also being wildly over prescribed in the recovery community for anxiety of all things. it can be addictive, this is not the community to be prescribing it to.

It is NOT for chronic pain!!!!! It helps with neuralgia (nerve type pain strictly) that many diabetics deal with....'calms it down'. BUT, the more you take, the more tolerance you build. Higher sustained dosages are fraught with unwanted side effects, AND dependency. You CANNOT just stop gabapentin cold turkey.... have to taper off. It is WAY overprescribed because it became the 'go to' Rx with the whole opiate debacle.

they have my mom on gabapentin for her muscle disease. my mother also has 2 types of brain cancer with intense memory loss BEFORE she started taking it. they're trying to find an alternative

I’m on it now and have been for a few years. My brain fog is absolutely terrible, my eyesight is worse, I feel like I’m not in my own body. My legs and feet constantly hurt and are restless. I HATE IT. It was great at first for me. I feel like it’s ruining me. Maybe it’s not gabapentin, but idk what else it could be.

I was prescribed gabapentin at 26 while awaiting a spinal surgery. I am a huge advocate for it to come with a black box warning. I truly believe it had last effects on my brain. Permanent brain fog and memory issues.

I was taking 900 mg 3 times a day (it didn’t even help with the pain) and couldn’t remember things clearly anymore. I weaned myself off of it completely and will never take it again. Still have brain fog but it’s probably menopause at this point.

Other then memory loss, what else do you notice. My partner is on the highest dose of gabapentin and many others and he’s been nothing but grabby and angry constantly

This isn’t accurate though. They’ve shown a correlation between memory loss and gabapentin but haven’t ruled out that the conditions that would make one likely to take gabapentin are actually what is causing the cognitive decline.
