The sooner you guys learn to tell men what you want, the better for your own peace of mind. Ask your boyfriend to get you flowers, get you a coffee what matters is that he listened and didn't make a fuss about it. I have learned to ask for things instead of waiting for them. What matters is that he bought them when he could have chosen not to.
