(If he says no) Have you tried everything you can to make Alaska work? Are you depressed? No shame in taking antidepressants! Also, It would prob help so much if you could figure out how to make some friends!! (I know it can be really hard, I finally found my people after 10 years in our new home state and it has been life changing!) I hope this works out in the best way for you!!

If I felt that he as their father would move if he had an opportunity to better his life, I’d put myself first and move. I had a friend who turned down an amazing opportunity just one state away bc her ex was an “involved father”. Well six months later, Mr Father of the Century got a promotion that required him to move to a different company office multiple states away and he took it and left within the month of accepting.

I agree. She should plan on moving and discuss a new parenting plan with the father. Be open-minded about how it will go, but know that she might only get summers and winter break. Maybe the father will come up with a better solution.

Has she considered taking trips just for herself, even if they are short ones? Travel to California or Hawaii 1-2 times/year and enjoy a week of beautiful coastlines with great weather. There is so much she can do to enrich her life, and the children’s as well, by getting out of the rut she’s in. She’ll meet a lot of people by doing so and might meet some that even live in Alaska. My impression is that she feels stuck (understandably so) and isn’t thinking of all the possibilities.

First thing that came to mind was perhaps an arrangement where you would have the children 6 months out of the year, living in the lower states, and their dad would raise them the other six, preferably during the nicest months in Alaska.
