@nickjayala: Get rid of the piggy bank. Three jars will teach your kids more about money than school ever will. Spend, save, give, and THEY do the splitting. Choices, patience, and the thing almost no adult learns: money is also for other people. Save this for this weekend. #parenting #money #kids
I will do this but add a 4th. An investment jar. To teach investing.

We have a 4th jar. THE TAX jar. When my child gets money, a small percentage goes into the T Jar. When we need to replace or buy something for the house, my child participate (obviously a tiny amount) but we hope they will understand the idea of taxes as well

We do similar, they do jobs to earn money, they get paid each fortnight, then they choose how much to save and how much to keep to spend, it’s interesting watching them learn money-work value and see how much they have saved over time.

I hope my kids don't split a dollar because a dollar note cut into 3 pieces is not worth anything.

Shouldn’t be a ‘Give’ jar but an ‘Invest’ jar teaching them how to make $ grow for itself. Whether investing in people,

we do similar, they have a spending jar, an ISA we call older savings (they cannot access it until they are 18), an investment jar, a savings jar for "big" things and charity. they choose how to split it
