You are right my sister Mzilikazi did pass through the Ndebele people in South Africa on his way to Zimbabwe.The Tswana people identified the Mzilikazi people as Matobolo because of their spears they had.The white people failed to pronounce Matobolo instead they called us Matabele.

they are not ndebele they are actually zulus they are called matebele even where my mom come from in Lesotho there are also matebele but they speak sesotho

Yes they were called Matebele because of their long shields, even today in Lesotho they call people from KZN Matebele.
