Im with you on this. My stepdad tried to ask my employer how much I was making and tried to set up a bank account in his name for my checks so he could control my money. She let me know and he got banned from the store.

We had a former student get dropped off in the morning, sit in the foyer, and then get picked up every night for almost a month at our college before we had to have a talk with them and say “you can’t sit in the foyer all day as a non-student, you have to tell your parents you dropped out”.

So I was one of those employees who was hired and, at the time, didn't have a bank account because I'd ended a bad relationship; the company I worked for had pay cards I could use. I told my manager this at the time and HOUNDED him to get the card so I could get paid. I asked every day I worked for a month. He literally left the job overnight; the regional manager took over, and when I told her I still hadn't been paid, it showed in the system that I hadn't been given a physical check, a pay card, or direct deposit. To say the least, she was livid with the previous manager; all the original manager had to do was issue the card from the stock in the safe and send the info to corporate... I was young at the time, but it truly does happen. WITH THIS SAID- I did not get my parent involved, I was an adult.

Maybe it’s because I’m a man but I only had to say “I can’t discuss his/her employment with you because that’s illegal” once. They never pushed me. But they definitely pushed female managers

i’ve had calls like this working as a retail store manager, parents would call and yell at me for their child getting a bad performance review, or getting written up for late notice call offs / no shows…….i had an employee once who knew she was being fired (she had 4 really bad monthly performance reviews in a row, and each time i reiterated the policy and made an improvement plan with her. on the 3rd month she said “so i’ll probably be fired next month” and i said “well if you follow your improvement plan and i can see that you’re improving, no” and then the next month was worse) and she was so sweet about it, she thanked me for the experience and hugged me on her way out. and then her mom called and threatened to beat my ass lmfao

I use to work with a lady whose kids also worked at our store. She came into a manager's meeting and started screaming at the store manager (her boss) in front of all the other managers about her son's schedule and how it was interfering with school. He was 18, in college and neglected to talk to his manager about changing his availability for the new school year (probably because he was used to mommy taking care of everything)
