By the time I entered, my clothes were completely soaked, my hair dripping onto my face, and my hands were still holding the bouquet I had brought for Miu. "Are you okay?" the bartender asked "Just give me something strong." THE NEXT MORNING I didn't go to work. I didn't even bother checking my phone. My head hurts. My body felt heavy. But none of that compared to the pain in my chest. I kept thinking about Miu I knew Miu hadn't hugged LingLing back. But seeing them together still hurts. I closed my eyes. The sound of knocking interrupted my thoughts. I groaned. I thought it was Bam. She had probably come to check on me. I slowly got out of bed and walked toward the door. I opened the door. And froze. She stood there looking worried. Her eyes were red, like she hadn't slept either. "Lena." I couldn't speak. "What are you doing here?" "You didn't answer your phone." I looked away. "I didn't want to talk to anyone." "I know." She hesitated. "But I needed to see you." I stepped aside. She entered quietly. For several seconds, neither of us spoke. Then Miu finally looked at me. "About last night..." I shook my head. "I don't want to talk about it." "Please." "Miu, I'm tired." "I know." Her voice trembled. "But I need you to understand what happened." I looked at her. "Then explain." Miu took a deep breath. "LingLing came because she wanted to apologize." I remained silent. "She told me she regretted what happened between us." "She said she doesn't expect me to forgive her or take her back." I looked down. "Then why did she hug you?" Miu's eyes filled with tears. "I didn't ask her to, She suddenly hugged me." "I couldn't move." She wiped her cheek. "I didn't hug her back, Lena." "I saw." "I was crying because I remembered everything." She looked at me. "Not because I wanted her." "I cried because I remembered the girl I used to be." I stayed silent. "Six years is a long time. Even when you don't want someone anymore, you can't erase six years of memories in one night." I understood. But understanding didn't make it hurt less. "I know." Miu stepped closer. "And when I saw you..." Her voice broke. "I was terrified that you would misunderstand." I looked at her. "I did." Miu's eyes filled with tears. "I'm sorry." "I know you didn't hug her back." "Then why did you leave?" I laughed quietly. "Because I saw the person you once loved standing in front of you." I wiped my eyes. "And I suddenly felt like I was nothing compared to six years." Miu shook her head. "You're not nothing." "Then what am I?" Miu stared at me. "You're the person I care about now." My heart skipped. But I wasn't ready to hear more. "Miu, please stop." She became quiet. "I believe you." "Then—" "But I'm still hurt." Her expression fell. "I need time." "Time for what?" I looked down. "To think." I took a deep breath. "I don't want to make a decision while I'm angry, jealous, or scared." Miu nodded slowly. "I need to understand what I feel." She looked at me with tears in her eyes. "Do you still love me?" The question hurt. I looked at her. There was no reason to lie. "Yes." Miu's lips trembled. "I still love you." I looked away. "That's the problem." She stepped closer. "Lena..." "I love you so much that even after seeing that, I still don't want to lose you." My voice cracked. "And I hate that." Miu started crying. "Don't hate yourself for loving me." "I'm trying." She reached for my hand. I let her hold it. But I didn't pull her closer. "I just need time." Miu nodded. "Okay." She squeezed my hand gently. "I'll give you time." I looked at her. "Thank you." Miu slowly let go. Before leaving, she looked back at me. "For what it's worth, Lena... I wasn't choosing LingLing." My eyes filled with tears. "I was choosing to leave the past behind." She paused. "And when I saw you, I wanted to run after you." I couldn't answer. She opened the door. Then she stopped. "I'll wait." she said then left.
