@medicaldoctor48: “Your tummy is pointed, you’re having a boy.” “You’re carrying high, definitely a girl.” “You’re craving sweet things, it’s a girl.” “Your baby’s heartbeat is fast, it’s a girl.” And some people will even look at your face and confidently announce the gender of your baby. 😂 But let’s talk truth. NONE OF THESE METHODS CAN RELIABLY TELL YOU WHETHER YOU ARE CARRYING A BABY BOY OR GIRL. The shape or position of your bump depends more on things like your baby’s position, your body shape, abdominal muscles and whether you have been pregnant before. Your cravings, skin changes, morning sickness and even the baby’s heartbeat cannot reliably tell you the baby’s gender. So what is the most common way to find out? An ultrasound scan is the most common and less invasive way to find out your baby’s gender during pregnancy. Depending on the baby’s position and the stage of pregnancy, the sonographer may be able to see whether you are having a boy or girl. But what if you don’t want to use a scan? A prenatal genetic test using your blood, such as cell-free DNA screening, can sometimes identify the baby’s gender from around 10 weeks of pregnancy. There are also diagnostic tests like amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling (CVS), which can determine chromosomal sex, but these are NOT tests you should do simply because you want to know if baby is a boy or girl. They are invasive and are usually done for medical reasons. So, mama, if your aunty says, “I looked at your face and I know it’s a boy,” just smile. 😂 She may be right, but she definitely didn’t diagnose it from your face.
