Kroger's Simple Truth brand bans 101 ingredients from every product it sells. No BHA. No BHT. No TBHQ. No artificial colours. No artificial flavours. No aspartame. No azodicarbonamide. No bleached flour. No bromated flour. No high fructose corn syrup. No sodium nitrite. No antibiotics. No carmine. No brominated vegetable oil. 101 ingredients that the rest of Kroger's own shelves still carry — blacklisted from one brand and sold freely in everything next to it. The list is public. The commitment spans hundreds of products across 30 categories. In a market where most retailers are only now pledging to remove synthetic dyes by 2027, Kroger built an entire clean brand years ago. Here's where it gets complicated. Simple Truth's chicken and poultry supply chain has never been fully disclosed. The brand is widely suspected of sourcing from Perdue — one of the four companies controlling 60% of US chicken production, and one of the suppliers that paid over $370 million to settle price-fixing allegations. Simple Truth was also hit with a class-action lawsuit for labelling products
