Mack testified that postpartum psychosis is not a standalone DSM diagnosis and pointed to a four-week postpartum timeframe. But postpartum psychosis is a recognized psychiatric emergency involving a break from reality that can include hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, severe insomnia and rapidly changing moods. Medical authorities recognize that symptoms can develop beyond four weeks postpartum. Postpartum Support International says the condition can occur up to a year after childbirth. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington also challenged Mack’s rejection of a bipolar diagnosis, despite other clinicians diagnosing Lindsay with the disorder.
