@gardenbabyrylie: Congresswoman Nancy Mace posted the line today, two weeks after federal regulators finalized a rule cutting Medicaid and CHIP funding for gender-affirming care. The rule applies to minors: under 18 on Medicaid, under 19 on CHIP. It covers puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery, though surgery on minors is rare. It takes effect on October 13, with six months of continued funding for children already on hormones. Mental health coverage is untouched, and states may still pay for everything out of their own budgets. Regulators project savings of roughly 235 million dollars over ten years across programs covering 35.5 million children. The agency received almost 35,000 public comments. Of those it published, it says more than 90 percent opposed the change. The rule rests on a 2025 federal health review that the American Academy of Pediatrics says misstates the medical consensus. Officials wrote in the rule that saving money was not the goal. which i agree with. why should we pay for someone else's mental issue? Sources: CMS; KFF

I do agree with this I don’t care what you do with your body, but I shouldn’t have to pay for it when I had cancer. Nobody paid for that. I had to pay for it, even though I was almost dying.

Women have to pay for their own breast, reconstructive surgery after they get them removed for breast cancer

If women cannot get effective care for a medical condition like PCOS something that is elective, you can do it out of your own pocket

It’s literally cosmetic surgery when you think about it

This is 100% elective. And it should be covered out of one’s pocket. If it’s not, then they need to open up the floodgates for women that need reconstructive surgery after childbirth. Period.

If a breast lift after kids and breastfeeding is considered cosmetic this should be too

I agree. Women can’t even get breast reduction surgery without jumping through hoops and fitting “criteria”.

The issue is when you start putting limitations on gender affirming care, it’s going to affect cis men and cis women. Gender affirming care is for everyone. Menopause medication, erectile distinction meds, breast cancer reconstructive surgeries… it’s a slippery slope to cut off access to healthcare for things just bc you don’t agree with it.

it's the same as plastic surgery, hair removal, hair extensions, lipo suction. if you are modifying your body I shouldn't have to pay for it

Completely agree. Unless you have a medical reason (because you feel trapped or not right is not one), pay for it yourself

Agree!! Your body your choice, but not on my dime. In my state if you are classified as having body dysphoria, all transition meds and supplies are free.

it's none of my business what someone wants to do to their body until they expect me to pay for it. I will be okay with my taxes going to pay for someone's cancer treatment or organ transplant, etc.
