@jamievaron: The internet has given us many ways to reach each other and also many ways to disconnect. One of the things I’ve found most damaging about the internet is how much it’s used to complain about someone’s behavior, which only acts as a prescriptive moment for someone else. How do you show up for someone if there’s a million reels telling you what not to do and what to do, but then comments saying that way isn’t good either? How do you be yourself in a world terrified of cringe? How do you reach out and take the risk when you’re worried your text might end up on a viral TikTok? Monitoring and policing people’s behavior is NOT connection. And it has made us lonelier, quick to scroll alone, but slow to reach out. We’ve lost individuality. We’ve gained a type of self-consciousness that is existential, like every single human behavior is being dissected and reviewed. Suddenly you can’t say “let me know how I can help” because that’s a burden. Suddenly you need a disclaimer before leaning on a friend. Suddenly every human emotion and behavior is intellectualized to the point of insanity. No wonder everyone stopped reaching out. The only safe thing to do is send Reels back and forth and even then, you hope you don’t unintentionally offend someone. It’s wild times. My digital wellness brand, The Phone Pause aims to bring common sense, intention, and balance back to our online and offline lives. 🛝 #fyp #connection #loneliness #therapytok
