I don't understand it either. When someone tells me they are a God fearing man, I always say, why would you fear God??? I love God! I have had this conversation so many times.

Some need to believe in a God they fear just as some believe it’s normal or ok to have an authoritarian dad that keeps his children disciplined, orderly, and obedient 🤷🏻♀️

My Dad and a good friend recently told me I cannot talk to God without going through Jesus. I said “then why did God show up when I talked to him?”. Because he did! I didn’t speak to Jesus.

I am not a Christian, just sharing my opinion. I believe it has a lot to do with people externalising their power. It seems so much more manageable (and socially acceptable) to have this big entity outside of me that exerts so much power and influence over my life, instead of fully stepping into being the authority of my life and taking charge. We might say we’re powerful but I believe realising our power is quite destabilising because then you have no one to blame and you’ll be asked to take full responsibility. So maybe projecting it onto others, either people or entities like god could potentially be a way to stay in touch with that power but never fully owning it. Wanting to have fear in your life in order to do or not do certain things also feels infantilising in my view. It maintains that parent-child dynamic, fearing the big parent that will admonish me if I do something wrong. Not sure if I have articulated my thoughts well enough but overall I believe it has to do with power.

So it’s about why they believe in God. Some people believe in God bc they are seeking truth and the light, others are seeking God so they can feel superior to others (like the Pharisees). However the reason why people want to believe that God is this scary tyrant in the sky mostly comes down to the fact they don’t want to face themselves. They want to gatekeep God and have turned a relationship with God into a fraternity/sorority. They care more about the church attendance and memorizing bible verses than actually having a relationship with God. And again, it stems from the reason they believe in the first place. They are not looking for truth, they are looking for comfortability. And bc they are low vibrational, they thrive in fear. This is why they love to fear God in the way that they do. If u were to say u believe in God and Jesus, but u didnt go to church, they would most likely freak out inside. They would tell u that u are wrong. They believe Christianity (a man made religion) saves them which is not what the Bible says at all. They have a deep lack of self so they have a savior complex. And when u go about God in a different way, they will call u demonic. Because they have demons. They want to gatekeep and control ur relationship with God. Not all Christians are like this, but many are. I think if more people saw the truth about how these people truly operate, they would realize that they are being scammed. God is real, it’s just not in that way.

It is not the fear that we would normally think of. It is basically remembering just how much God is in control and we are not, and recognizing that our lives are not our own, but they belong to the Lord.
