@creativeflairhq: You don’t need a camera to photograph your paintings for prints. You need a cloudy day, a window and ten minutes. 1. Overcast light. Sunshine looks lovely and wrecks the photo, because it puts a hot spot in the middle and turns everything slightly orange. A grey day is a giant softbox. If you can, take the painting outside and lean it against a wall in the shade. Best free lighting there is. 2. No flash. Not once, not ever. 3. Phone square on. Lens level with the middle of the painting, not looking down at it. Prop it on a stack of books if you’ve no tripod. Then fill the frame. Every pixel you spend on the wall around the painting is a pixel you don’t get in the print. 4. Turn off HDR and any auto enhance. Your phone is guessing at colour and it guesses warm. In a print that’s the difference between your reds and somebody else’s reds. 5. The one that ruins most prints: photograph it BEFORE you varnish. Varnish puts every light in the room into your photograph and it’s very hard to get back out. Shoot it, then varnish it. Already varnished? Take it outside on a grey day and it’ll still beat anything you manage indoors. And a limit nobody mentions: a normal phone photo prints beautifully up to about A4, maybe A3 if you’re relaxed. Bigger than that and you want a proper camera, or a flatbed scanner if it’s work on paper.
