I’m 4 months post op from double jaw surgery and I’ve become a cautionary tale for how braces can harm jaw expansion as a teen and cause issues that possibly weren’t there and definitely not help the issues in the long run.

Why does it lock you into jaw surgery? Can you not just expand according to your lower arch or will that expansion not be enough? As long as you have enough space for your tongue no?

I have this!!! I got it in in May and will be finally getting it out in October. I’m not gonna sugar coat it, it’s incredibly hard to go through,but will be so worth it in the end.

I have suffered from night bruxism since I was 10 yo and now noticing it in my 3 yo daughter. There definately are airway links because I hear her brux before an apnea. Ive got her enrolled into a myofunctional therapy program

so when you expand the upper jaw, it's limited by the lower right? I mean we can upright the teeth to get better expansion. but from your first point, are you thinking to widen the lower jaw through surgery to match the top?

I had this exact procedure done when I was 10. I am 41 and still have TMJ and mouth breathe and my surgery was considered a total success. I have VERY MIXED feelings about this procedure and am genuinely amazed adults are doing it. It was single handedly the most excruciating extended pain of my entire life.
