All these comments are great answers. You ask for the mistrial, knowing the judge is not likely to grant it. This preserves the issue for appeal if Lindsey's was found guilty.. It also shows the jury the nonsense the prosecutors are doing bringing it up. If a prosecutor does it intentially to force a mistrial, it could be with prejudice and case can not be retried.

I don’t know what Mack was thinking. I think he was riled by Reddington on Friday and it became some kind of competition that Mack weirdly and aggressively wanted to win - in his head. What he didn’t factor is as you said, the jury will likely actively dislike his posturing and evasion - so he just destroyed his own credibility
