First and foremost jury duty should pay minimum wage (which also desperately needs to be increased). It's a travesty that it doesn't and part of why the system is broken. Secondly, being judged by a jury of your peers who are explicitly not legal professionals is a super important check on both the legal system and legislature. It's a key part of a working democracy.

If called to be a juror, just immediately tell them you think the person deserves the death penalty, even before hearing the case. They'll take you off. Trust me on this.

The first time I was ever given jury duty my mom had to tell them I couldn’t do it. They told her it was my civic duty to go, and she told them i was already performing a civic duty. They told her it wasn’t an excuse to miss jury duty, and she told them to call my command, but they might not answer because we were in Afghanistan.

I got a permanent exemption from jury duty in my current county because I'm the primary caregiver of my disabled son & serving jury duty would cause undo financial hardship since I'd have to hire skilled nursing staff to care for him since my husband also works

Got called for federal court once and wasn’t chosen. They filled the jury before they got to me. But the case was mail fraud and the defendant was my mail carrier 🤣 I think I would have got off

just be brutally honest about your beliefs and standing on the subjects they question you about. majority of the time they will dismiss you because they want an "impartial" jury.

I still don't get the concept of letting civilians deciding the fate of a person (note my country doesn't have a jury system and all sentences are made by the judge or the supreme court)
