David Herrington955 :
They weren't murdered, not most of them. Vast majority of natives died of disease introduced to the by the new visitors, that they had no immunity to. Smallpox, scarlet fever, tuberculosis and others. Not done maliciously for the most part, Hudsons Bay company and some of the conquistadors did, but rarely. Even in many of the tribes, folklore tells if the time from about 1500 to 1600 as the great dying, plagues swept through the population, carried by sailors and soldiers and settlers, that their populations could survive, that the natives could not. Same thing happened when the Huns, and later Mongols invaded Europe, and brought the black plague. That was the major reason Europeans made this mad dash for land, as much of it that was populated in 1500, was mostly empty by the 1600's.
