The push, the angle, his tone, and the music make it feel like a dv awareness video😭 like it should have a little message at the end against dv but nah just a golf add

Something is going on. Men are out of control. Ads like this prove it. Nobody thought this was a bad idea??

Not only was the ad SO offensive and problematic, but it also didn’t make any sense just from an advertising standpoint? Like was the message, “I love my club too much to let anyone else borrow it?” I don’t get it on any level

This is not a PR nightmare. This was 100% on purpose with full knowledge of the response that would take place. This was a dog whistle that was absolutely made on purpose for a specific population. They might try to pretend that they just did not realize it, but far too many people at both companies saw this and approved it. This was done with full knowledge of how people would react. Now they have "apologized" but it already reached their target audience and reactions against it will only bolster their intended audience. Don't fall for the "mistake" narrative. They wanted this exact response exactly.

Also why is the music so serious???? Like it’s threatening?? How was anyone supposed to take anything away from this other than a man is literally threatening a woman??

We know exactly why they filmed it the way they did. They thought lots of men would think it was as funny as they thought it was.

Update: just read the follow-up statement from Callaway’s CEO. His admission that Callaway signed off on this ad is appalling. The fallout from this could be significant.

I saw someone say that it looks like they were referencing the Stepbrothers “don’t touch my drumset” bit. But it did NOT come across that way. At all. It was very uncomfortable.

I may be wrong, but don’t they also market themselves as wholesome mormons? (which, contradiction in itself) but that feels very on brand
