Next question in the adoption series: “Did your daughter bond with you right away after adoption?” 💌 I want to answer this question by first saying that every single adoption is so, so different. For us, the bonding for all three of us was instant and has only continued to deepen. It truly felt so supernatural in so many ways. Our girl is a little snuggle bug! 🐛💫 She LOVESSSS to be close, and sometimes she even makes me hold her hand while she eats. 😂 It’s the sweetest thing ever. 😭 I remember allll the emotions building up on the day we were going to meet her for the very first time, not knowing at all what to expect and preparing our hearts for every possible scenario. I remember laying every expectation on the altar before the Lord and simply trusting that, no matter how that day unfolded, He would meet us there. We were open and willing to do whatever work it would take to build trust, create a secure attachment, and love her well, no matter what the bonding looked like at first. If there’s any encouragement I would leave you with, it’s this. Every adoption and every story is so different. Bonding doesn’t always happen right away. Sometimes one parent bonds first while the other takes more time. Sometimes both parents struggle to bond at first. Sometimes the parents bond quickly, but the child needs more time to trust and attach, and so on. Not every bonding journey looks the same, and that doesn’t mean it’s not beautiful or that something is wrong. There is no “perfect” way for attachment to happen.
