Exactly! My clock watching manager watched me walkout at 5 on the dot every day. He tried to say I should be in the door a few minutes early so I could be settled and “ready to work” by 8, so I started packing up a few minutes early so I could be “ready to leave” at 5 😇

I had an employee who started coming in late constantly. I asked her what was up, and if she needed to adjust her schedule. she cried. her family over sees was in a medical crisis, and she couldn't be there so she picked up a second job to help the cost of surgery. she was running herself into the ground. Anyway we made some adjustments and accommodated and she's on time and she laughs again. being a boss doesn't mean be a dick.

Absolutely need an update on this for what was further responded. Side note, as someone who is HR in an Australian major hospital, how corporate America handle some of these situations is absolutely wild to me.

I needed people there at 8am. Not later than that. The doors opened at 8 for customers to come and the phones started ringing at 8 with customers. So people needed to be on the job. i was definitely a clock watcher, so I guess that makes me a bad person.

I reckon 10 minutes or less is nothing especially with traffic and if they have to find parking etc. if there is a meeting then fair enough but if not at least they turned up

I can’t stand this kind of stuff. From an employee’s perspective it’s like being pecked to death by a chicken. It happened to me once, my male boss at the time, who was actually a really great guy, came into my office, sat down and proceeded to yell at me for coming in late. Btw that was not like me at all. I was never late. I had to break the news that I was newly pregnant and barfing every morning. Then I burst into tears. He was mortified and that was the end of that.

In the interview process of my job we tell everyone this job isn't 9 to 5 its get your job done within 40 hours. If you work 7a-6p on Monday take a half day later in the week. I spent a lot of Friday mornings on the golf course.

this always makes me wonder how empty the managers days are that they can clock watch to this extent. maybe they can take some work off their teams plates so they aren’t staying until 9:30pm and feel able to arrive at 9:00 sharp if that’s what is needed.

im salary. my boss makes damn sure we are all in and online by 8. and then he also makes damn sure we take a full hour for lunch, and are out by 5. ive literally been scolded for finishing something up at 515 because I "shouldnt be starting new tasks at 445 that can wait until tomorrow". guess who is never quitting or job shopping.

Exactly, I had a boss who had zero problems making me work through lunch 5 days a week. No break at all during the day. I would occasionally be late because of school drop off. Once she reprimanded me about my "dedication" and said the hand book said 9am. I said message received. When she asked where I was from 12-12:30 I told her the handbook told me I was entitled to a lunch break away from my desk.
