Shingles can cross the midline if it disseminates. It’s rare, but it is a big deal and requires airborne precautions.

The word never I think isn't appropriate Dr,I have handled many cases of Shingles crossing midline,common in immunocompromised individuals with very low CD4 Counts. That is disseminated Shingles,so it's possible.

for all intents and purposes, shingles doesn't cross the midline for a GP/ER/FM and all other non derma fellows. that's easier to recognize as you won't come across many that will cross the midline and if you did you have much bigger problems than the herpes outbreak
