Let’s talk about the use of aversive tools in dog training. I’m getting a lot of DMs after my last post (talking to the other trainer in my car) and I wanted to make a video highlighting why I (a force free trainer) would not use tools like a prong or e-collar to train a dog. Science has proven what methods work best and last long term. I can understand how a person would choose to go with aversive methods if they are overwhelmed with their dog. If you are that person reading this, just know that I won’t judge you. I won’t blame you either. You are likely ready to try anything to “fix” your issue. Actually. This is not even a me vs you conversation. I just want you to know: these aversive methods are not the solution to fix your dog long term. Studies show that force free training ACTUALLY works out better for the dog and the human. It’s not going to be an instant change. It’ll take time- but it works. If you watch my content, you know I am a 100% force free trainer. I care about every single dog’s emotional wellbeing.
