unfortunately drone warfare is actually very "human" in the Geneva convention sense. they are highly accurate and precision munitions. they can target only soldiers in theory, unlike artillery and landmines.

I largely agree with the sentiment and analysis, but many critiques of WAI are equally shallow. They often rest on assumptions that pre-autonomous warfare is in some way more civilized (because humans are 'pulling the trigger') or sufficiently codified (current conflicts demonstrate why this is not the case), and/or fail to address that agency and accountability is already distributed between humans and machines/bombs - simply inspect the language around collateral damage or 'precision strikes'.

Uranium isn't a great analogy because there are about 2 orders of magnitude more people globally who have the know how to implement an AI system semi-autonomously vs fabricate a nuclear weapon, and for the AI group, a lot of them have the tools already. and if you don't have an international treaty, the technology will just flow from unregulated areas to regulated areas. It'll be way more like guns, which I believe in gun control, but it definitely has not been as successful as uranium controls.
