pricing my work is truly my LEAST favourite thing 😭 especially after trying to look closer at the numbers behind my small ceramic business. i’m trying to map out the potential 1, 3, and 5 year revenue and expense projections to see if investing in a kiln and building this business actually makes any sense. at my current $30-$65 price point, i’m losing money selling my work and cannot justify a kiln. i’ve made the terrifying decision to raise my prices by 25-30%. the money will go towards expanding production (investing. in a kiln & shelving), upgrading my website, expanding to ship to the US, and finally, offering private lessons and workshops. with the price increase, I will still need to survive 6 months - 1 year without a livable wage / making profit. i’ll be focusing on my higher-margin petal bowls and bring in some more affordable $25 products like spoon rests and trinket dishes to keep things as accessible as possible. my mugs are not viable as they take me 2hrs each, but i’m going to keep making them for now and hope i can speed it up. no more lidded jars outside of speciality collections as the margins are too low. i’m also going to try to secure 1-2 freelance social media clients to provide me with some supplement income as a buffer. this is the behind the scenes of small ceramics business’ that you normally don’t see, because it’s not nearly as cute or fun as the pots themselves. #potterybusiness #ceramics #SmallBusiness #priceincrease #handmadeceramics
