this! i was also at the point where i had to drink, not drinking wasn’t an option due to withdrawals, i had seizures, at the end of my drinking i wanted nothing more than to stop, it wasn’t fun anymore and i was vomiting blood and was generally unwell but doctors were saying that stopping suddenly was too dangerous, after a medical detox im now 3 months sober, im so glad to be out <3

yes to this. One of the most obvious sensations was the sense of relief when I cut it out. It was like finishing a terrible job..

i have to put the volume down because I don't want people to know. But that makes me know I know.

the stress of thinking about the liquor store rotation and the embarrassment from hearing "omg i was worried about you where have you been?" from the workers. 🙃

The constant panic and calculation of how many drinks you’ll buy in the shop and WORRYING so much it won’t be enough, so then I always bought extra which meant I was definitely drinking for the next few nights.

Moderation doesn't even work in my brain when I imagine the situation of having one drink. That's a big reason why I can stay sober, because thinking about having one drink makes me also think about stopping after that, what keeps me away from taking the first drink.

I know now I have a problem. I’ve known it deep down for quite a while, but the last several months have been the worst of my life. If I’m at a bar with friends, for instance, I’ll be having a conversation, but barely paying attention because I’m thinking about the drink in front of me, and when that’s done, I’m thinking about the next one

My brain just doesn’t do moderation - if I’m drinking at all, I am completely consumed by thoughts about drinking. Sobriety is the only way I have found freedom.

I’m still in the throws. It’s confusing. I can moderate for a couple weeks to a month or so and then I’ll get into a phase of binging again. I know I need to stop there’s just a wall there and I can’t get over it for some reason. I’m hopeful though! You inspire me 💖

Thank you Tamsin, for showing me that I’m doing the same as other alcoholics and that we have so much in common which helps encourage my sobriety.

And where to recycle the bottles/ boxes. Travelling miles so no one might recognise me. It’s so liberating letting all those thoughts go.

But being family members of an alcoholic is also exhausting and we don’t get to numb it with alcohol. We have to survive it sober
