I have learned something painful here in Marsabit. Sometimes, it feels like the poor, the helpless, the sick, and the forgotten are not valued the same way as the rich, healthy, popular, and well-connected. When someone with money, influence, or popularity asks for prayers or posts a fundraising video, millions can be raised. But when a poor family, a helpless person, or a sick brother or sister cries for help, sometimes only KSh 2,000 is raised. 💔 Why? Where is the love that Christ commanded us to have? Jesus said: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” — Matthew 22:39 Not love the rich as yourself. Not love the popular as yourself. Not love those who can help you as yourself. Love your neighbor. The Bible says: “If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?” — James 2:15–16 Church, this should break our hearts. 💔 We cannot loudly preach about Jesus while quietly ignoring the people Jesus told us to care for. We cannot celebrate our generosity when it is only shown toward those who are already doing well. True Christianity is not only what we say inside the church. It is how we treat the person who has nothing to give us in return. The poor deserve dignity. The sick deserve compassion. The helpless deserve support. The forgotten deserve to be remembered. And the person who has nothing to offer you financially is still created in the image of God. Maybe today we need to stop asking, “How much will I gain by helping this person?” And start asking: “What would Jesus do if He were standing here?” Lord Jesus, forgive us where we have failed to love. Break our hearts for what breaks Yours. Teach Your Church to see the forgotten, carry the weak, feed the hungry, care for the sick, and love without discrimination. May the Church never become a place where the rich are celebrated while the poor are forgotten. Because at the foot of the cross, we all need grace. ❤️ Where is the love of Christ? Let it begin with me. Let it begin with you. Let it begin in the Church.
