find the secret food court. go to the rhps shadow cast performance. don't overschedule. set several hours aside for americamart. find the con suite! drink lots of water. wear comfortable shoes. don't forget the portable charging pack!

It’s going to be overwhelming. DJs play music at the back of the Hilton steps like everyday almost all day, if you like that vibe it’s the place to be. You’re gonna want to go hard Thursday/friday, but pace yourself. Go to vendors hall Monday morning or Saturday during the parade if you’re not wanting to see the parade. Take breaks, hydrate, and go to the photoshoot meet ups even if you don’t cosplay. It’s so fun meeting people and people watching then

You’re gonna be standing in line A LOT. Have easy to eat snacks on you and a good damn water bottle. Use the refill stations around con. It’ll save you some money.

No stopping on the sky bridge or in front of the escalators! If you see a person with a mobility device (ESPECIALLY a wheelchair) please make room for them (ESPECIALLY if they are trying to get on or off an elevator) food court is the place to go at lunch time both for food and for hanging/meeting folks. The party goes all day and all night but after 9-10pm, don’t expect things to be kid friendly. Download the app for maps, schedules, party and panel info etc.

I love watching people experience Dragoncon for the first time! Choose 1-2 priority events per day (with lots of time in between; don’t pick a 10 and an 11:30 am event) and go with the flow the rest of the time. Make sure to take breaks and eat actual food for at least one meal a day, twice if you’re drinking.

Save this on your phone or ask if they have a laminated one at badge pickup, buy a collapsible stool on Amazon for line sitting, make sure you’ve got the app downloaded, stay hydrated, and have fun! If you want to go to the vendor hall and don’t care about the parade that’s the best time - way shorter line. Also the big panels with huge names are fun but some of the best times are in the small, niche panels with crazy premises

I know Facebook is blah but there is a Dragon con Newbies group that is really helpful! They also do a newbie tour on Thursdays which is super helpful!

Agree with people saying to find the con suite! Especially on day one, it’s a great place to go if you are overstimulated or really need a snack or pick me up. Also if you want to go to one of the big events, like the orchestra for example, be extremely early!! People start gathering in the area for popular events before they’re even allowed to form a line

BYOB and snacks. it's expensive in midtown if you plan to do day AND night activities and have a room (or comfy car) take short naps as frequently as possible. DRINK THE WATER OR YOU WILL DIE. It is both too hot and too cold. bring a lightweight jacket or something to throw on in case you walk into an Arctic panel. keep your eyes peeled. there's a lot of cool swag and seek giveaways.
