The Lorax marketing was hilariously out of touch because the Lorax image was used to promote consumerism for the film when the entire point of the book was that the Lorax represented anti consumerism and anti deforestation 😭

The David Fincher Girl WI the Dragon Tattoo was released (in the UK at least) at Christmas time. Partially set at Christmas sure but most people at Christmas don't want to see a movie about a nazi rapist....who knew

Not a movie, but the show pluribus put out an ad that said “we’re sorry we upset you, carol” and it landed on the smart fridge of a woman with schizophrenia and it sent her into psychosis

literally funny thing about marketing decisions like this is that they'll argue that they market researched but 9 out of 10 times, the decision was usually just made by some middle-aged white guy from his personal biases. if the market research contradicted his preconceived idea he just told them to find different numbers

another one kind of on a lower level to these is Halloween ends. I really enjoyed the movie but I understand why people didn't. it was marketed as "the last big Face-Off between Lori and Michael", when really that had nothing to do with the plot besides the last 10 minutes.
