@drsuecancervet: When it comes to aspirates, the simple truth is You only get better by doing. 💉💯 I speak with so many veterinary professionals who feel hesitant or nervous about performing fine needle aspirates, and I completely understand that it can feel intimidating at first. But like any clinical skill, confidence comes from repetition. The more you do, the more comfortable and accurate you become. In my hands, I prefer the fenestration (aka “woodpecker”) technique to help ensure a high-quality sample. I typically reach for a 20-gauge needle with a 6 cc syringe because it’s simple, reliable, and effective. 🙌🏻 And for anyone new to this: An aspirate is a quick, minimally invasive test, a small needle poke, similar to a vaccine or blood draw, and most pets tolerate it really well. So if you’ve been holding back, this is your sign to start. Have you been incorporating aspirates into your practice? How often are you doing them, and what’s helped you improve? P.S. Please know that once you start doing them regularly, they will go from feeling intimidating… to becoming second nature. 💜 Drop your tips below, let’s learn from each other. ↓ #petcancer #drsuecancervet #vetsofig
