Realism for the sake of it can be impressive without being interesting, when it’s both it is amazing

Lost_And_Found❗️🧿 :
It’s not they stopped appreciating it. It’s that many popular realistic artists stopped using their imagination and it showed. Their obsession with hyper realism killed the fantastical power of art. Less we forget the “artist paints better than Van Gogh” work from 3-4 years back which was just a realistic painting.

I think the concept of realism got watered down to just drawing celebrities and random lip combos with limes, and I absolutely love more abstract art styles, but this type of realism will always have such a special place in my heart

Realism is great when artist add their own originality and flare to a piece. If you’re just doing a hyper realistic drawing of a lip or celebrity it’s like meh

I think it’s because of AI. It’s too easy to make something without learning fundamentals these days, and unfortunately for more stoic minded and brutally taught artists like myself it’s just like looking at a photo. It’s a nice photo, but since there is no remarkable or distinctive art “style” with realism, it adheres to the same visual components that photographs do. Is it a compelling or raw scene, composed and “taken” well, or is it a photo of an apple? (Again has good potential but composition is key) My sister was only drew/painted realism and I had this debate with her countless times, it did make the debate easier when she fell into an obsession with perfectionism and “flawless” features. I’ve had thoughts like this about realism and AI before AI existed publicly. Again: nothing wrong with the art style , it takes talent to learn.

WOW this is so gorgeous!!! I dont dislike realism I just hate that its pushed on every artist when we all should just be vibing and appreciating everyone’s art. I also like more fantastical works so dramatic scenes like this piece here I enjoy so much

This is so beautiful! But i feel like people want to see more creative things, and want a distraction from the reality they live in. But realism is a gorgeous style and incredibly difficult to learn
