If I was a juror, I would assume the state/commonwealth using religion to prove their case means they have absolutely no case using the law.

This prosecution has been a joke from the very beginning, I knew they were screwed from their opening statements. “Lindsay Clancy was perfectly sane, she was meticulous and well thought out, and when she lost the control of her life…” How they managed to say anything other than she mentally snapped, which is the whole point of the case, was shocking to me.

as someone who hasn’t been following as closely, what do they win from doing this?

I think the twins told him to day this! I think they want to try to get this idea into the head of at least one juror.

If she is convicted I think they will likely have grounds to toss the conviction and get a new trial

Could we talk about the moment the doctor said, "She didn't remember, but they told her she had done it"? If I were on the jury and heard that...

Well let's reverse their argument: one could say that as a catholic it would be against her beliefs to kill her children and herself so only if she was in an "irrational" state she would do so.

The way they’re not even using it in a theologically accurate way is driving me crazy. The church does NOT have a list of sins that are mortal. A sin must be 1) grave matter 1) full knowledge 2) full consent of the will. If I’m on the jury, as someone who understands this nuance, this just drives home that she may have not been in her right mind and that may have mitigated her culpability temporally AND spiritually.

I actually thought he was a great witness up until that point! So odd that he made it a point to mention that specific phrase.
