@tropicalfishuk: This is a pea puffer, and its teeth never stop growing. That little beak on the front of its face isn't a beak at all. It's teeth — four long bands of them, fused into one hard edge. When a band wears out it isn't replaced: a new one stacks on top of it, so an adult's beak is more than seven layers deep. Scientists in Sheffield worked out how, and it turns out a puffer builds them with the same stem cells and the same genes you built yours with. But teeth that never stop have to be worn down. Feed one only soft food and the beak just keeps coming, until it can't eat at all. So it crunches. Snails, mostly.
